It could keep costs for new uniforms down at bit, and allow soldiers to buy possibly better working uniforms. I DON'T KNOW about all this stuff, don't flame me, I'm just stating my ideas, and opinions.

Otherway around, Digital is meant for 300m+ where you eyes will blend it to the sourroundings, this is why MC in the analog are more loved.

Digital is desinged more to blend at around 300+ meters IRIC, NOT closer althought it works just fine.

The reason we wear what we're allowed and told to wear is also in regards to IDing us as a canadian soldier by being able to say, "Hey, he IS a canadian, they're all the same" as, in theory and law, when captured by another standing, reconised nations military, I/we are entitled to certain things under various conventions, we are entitled to these as "Uniformed Combatants". If I remember rightly, we fail to be "uniformed combatants" if we wear whatever the hell we like and we lose alot of the stuff in the even of capture.

When I speak of capture, I'm talking about being a POW, captured by an actual army, such as the U.S. Military, British Military, NOT groups like the taliban. If captured by them, you're a hostage.

We would like to think that there are "rules" in war. Unfortunately, you can throw all the BS out the window.

Yea because you are so important and MUST have the first issue. Fuck off

Priority of issue is Task Force, Infantry, Engineers, Artillery, Armour, Training Centers, CSS and Signal units then everyone else. Reservists may have to wait a little while as the first batches will most likely go to Reg Force Infantry units as these are the guys who will get the most use out of it as well as deploying task forces.

Yes I am important, who are you to say I am not?
Who the hell does not think highly of themselves? Not getting far if you think your a POS.

Of course I want the latest greatest thing ASAP, who the hell doesn't? It happens all the time.

Oh and I am in an infantry unit, so either way I am up the list especially with the upcomming lack of outbound task forces....

In the big scheme of things in the CF you most likely aren't that important.. will the CF fall apart if you are not in it?

Wow you are really reading to much into my comment.
Also theres a difference in being confident in your abilities, etc and being arrogant. Also there is a middle ground between thinking you are the fuckin most amazing person and a shit pump.

Yea, but too get supply dudes to go around the system for you and ensure you are the first to get it is a bit much. Wait your turn and it will come.

lack of outbound task forces? you do know Afghanistan isn't finished right.. Combat Mission is done, but still going to be 950+/- troops in Northern Afghanistan doing a training mission. As well who knows what may come up later.

Yes Infantry units are going to be the first to get the new uniforms.. but that's Regular Force Infantry units, if you are Reserve Infantry it may be awhile before the new stuff gets to the different Reserve units. Look at all the other new kit that came in, from what it seemed like to me it took awhile for the new Rain Jackets, C7A2s, Rucksacks, etc to get to the Reserve force. Can't say for sure though on the ICU, just have to wait and see.

There are people already demoing it, I am definitely not the first. And who says they are going around the system? If its out for issue, it out for issue...

Oh hey, I am reg. If I was res, I wouldn't even consider making the comment that I did since I would know how impossible it would be.

I meant for the general issue to the Army, not the demo/trial initial issue.

Just going off how the new rain jackets and rucksacks worked out for us in Shilo, the first batch sent to the base was for all of us deploying on TF 1-08, then after wards it was for remainder of 2PPCLI and 1RCHA and then eventually for the base. Theres a priority list for new itms, just because it arrives at Clothing Stores doesn't mean everyone is entitled to it. I'm assuming your with 2RCR/CFB Gagetown, so at that base you would be the first to get it, unless there is a Task Force mounting out of there at that time as they would get priority then RCR, etc.

Chrios July 11th, 2011 02:15

Looks bitchin'. I'm a fan of mandarin collars for some reason unbeknownst even to me, but the pen sleeves are especially useful (something even the US guys I work with wondered about). I don't expect to get it for another couple years, but whatever. It's not like the clothes make me any better or worse at my job.

As an aside, however, I am in need of new combats anyways because of this. No big deal ;)

NovaKaynE July 13th, 2011 22:29

Lol Skeletor...we JUST got the A2's earlier last week. My unit prolly won't see this new uniform until 2013/14, lol.

Frozen Tex July 13th, 2011 23:30

It seems odd that they're going with velcro on the back pockets; the US ACU always used buttons for the back pockets, and they recently announced that they're getting rid of velcro on the main cargo pockets, as troop in the field complained that the velcro clogged up with sand too easily, and the flaps caught on stuff and ripped open at inopportune moments.

Yea, I wish they were keeping the buttons for the pockets, but maybe Gen II of the ICU will have that fixed. Just have to write UCRs about it.

aside from the LCF, not a big fan of the velcro on the shoulders. especially when the SM's at home won't let you put anything on them (reference rain jackets).

There are units that allow troops to put on IR flags on the rain jacket, and I would imagine it being the same with the ICU. As the whole point of the velcro is to put on IR/IFF patches.

* Also, do you really like the draw strings? I've always just cut them out when I get issued a new shirt. I find them useless and annoying more then anything.

For BMQ/SQ/DP1 level training the A1 is fine, I think some schools already have some C7A2 as well.

Pretty expensive stuff, Ops pants and shirt are $189 each.. plus I'm sure most units wouldn't allow them to be worn. I've only seen a few guys wear that Recce Smock as well.

Better stuff out there then that vest. As well I've heard complaints on their PALs webbing not spaced out to the same specs of the standard PALs webbing. So guys have had issues with mounting non Drop Zone pouches.

Kokanee July 17th, 2011 09:12

The ICU looks almost just like the technical drawings I submitted with a UCR for the combat uniform while overseas two years ago. Nice to see they actually read those, don't know where they came up with velcro pants pockets though, I'm sure there were many other UCR's submitted over the years so someone must have thought it was a good idea....
