Clone this...Rebrand that...

seems like almost all the gun brands i've been reading so far seems to be like a re-packaging or rebranding of something...followed by something like "it's still garbage"

now im definitely no hardcore airsoft player, im very casual...but this makes purchasing guns very difficult without being an expert on this...
like echo 1 guns are rebrands...
VA is rebrands of JG...

for a casual player, its like "well...at this point, its either spend a lot more for a G&P or TM...or buy a cheaper gun but spend a lot on upgrades..." it's a lose-lose situation....

aaaaaah...its so confusing...:banghead:

next thing you know, we'll find out that TM is a rebrand of some company in the Phillipines...

Conker March 3rd, 2012 21:54

TM AEGs are so 2008.

Curo March 3rd, 2012 22:02

And whats wrong with VFC, king arms or CA?

ThunderCactus March 3rd, 2012 22:47

CA isn't 100% TM spec, so upgrades aren't as good as they are in other guns
VFC is good
KA kicks ass
G&P is great, but overpriced

Anything that isn't TM spec like JG, ARES or cyma, don't even bother upgrading. Upgrades engineered for a certain standard of design do not work, or perform very poorly in guns that don't meet those standards.

Obtain links to retailers offering sales or lowered prices. I know of several as of now.

However I've heard from a friend they do manufacturing in China now.

We've always said cheaper guns are cheap for a reason. If you want quilty + after market compatability, buy high end. This has always been true.

I have been told by a Canadian retailer that TM does just enough of their manufacturing to qualify for the made in Japan label, 51%, with the rest in China.

This is kind of irrelevant though.

Chinese factories are capable of fabricating products of the most exquisite quality and precision. It all depends on who the customer is and how much they're willing to actively monitor quality and how much money they're willing to pay.

Not all clones are bad , just there a bit more hit and miss than others . I have had both good and bad guns but i still perfer Tm , ics and g@g . I have had a cyma ( that was ok , just needed a new hop up rubber. ) and a jg g36 that just wouldnt quite . I do firmly believe in the mon and fri gun theory , lol

G@G: The newest Airsoft Brand to hit the Canadian Market!

All jokes aside, however, I believe that G&G's MAX series is quite high quality, too, albeit being a half-breed kind of rifle series.

venture March 4th, 2012 14:24

Here is what I have noticed.

CA and VFC = 100% more price for 10-20% more quality than a Chinese clone like CYMA or JG
King Arms = 50% more price for 10% more quality
G&G = 50% more price for same quality

I'd like to know what VFC's and CA's you've been working on? The internal quality is much better than 10-20% over JG, DBoys or CYMA (although, some CYMA's have been getting better from what I was working on a few years ago)

venture March 4th, 2012 15:03

VFC's have nice gearsets. The pistons in the ones that I opened were clear polycarb.

Don't get me going about CA. They have several flaws. IF you see any yellow plastic then prepare for failure.

The only problem with CA is the yellow piston...that's it.

Like many players, I swear by my Cyma Thompson. Went through at least 10,000 BBs without a single failure with barely any upgrades (Replacing nylon bushings by metal ones and replace spring guide by a bearing spring guide).
