Wanting to go to a game
 

It's been about a year since I got myself an M4 and all I've really been is a chairsofter. I want to get out to some games this year but I feel nervous, kinda like it's a closed community, it seems like you have to be part of a team. What's the best way to come to game? Should I contact a team in my area or contact a thread starter in the games section.

PS If this is in the wrong forum or covered in the FAQ please act accordingly

OH TTAC3 is having a free night on like this friday. Its downtown great chance to meet new players and such. You have to be 18 to attend.

Contact a thread starter in the games section. There is a game at PBnation in Mississauga this weekend. Its not a closed community, and contrary to what you may see online, everyone I've met who plays airsoft is very friendly.

Conrad, you sound like a perfect candidate for the 'Team with no name'. Just look for Groo or myself at any outdoor game. We're idiots and we don't have a whole lot of useful information to give, but we're funny idiots. The way I see it, if you're laughing - you're having fun. On the plus side. There are other members on the team who actually know what they're talking about. When you get sick of us (and you will) you can talk to them.

You have to start somewhere. I found that most people are quite approachable. When I started, I didn't know a single person. By the end of my first game, I had spoken with a few people and all was good.
I find that it's probably easier to meet people when you're in doors or doing some kind of CQB. The games are shorter giving you time to talk to other players. That's just my opinion though.

There are a number of games coming up, especially the Flag Raider games, which you should be closer to. Usually people bring one or two friends on their first time out, but not really necessary. Once you come out to the game, you'll find that the players are usually friendly. I say usually because sometimes you'll come face to face with a mean grinch like memel. But you can ignore him - we all do. ;)

Come out to a game, introduce yourself as a new player, get to know the players. One big thing about airsoft is that, it's also a social gathering - hmmm... maybe that's why we can never start a game on time. :)

It's funny, not too long ago I posted a blog (though not here) about my first time out in airsoft. I was going to post it on ASC too, but wasn't completely done. *lol* Ah, the good'ol n00bie days....

Deathsniper was on of the first people that helped welcome me. (there were a few) and it was so nice to feel welcomed into a group with similar interests.

As for Memel, 1 part wooden spoon, 1 part tough love and a strong wrist is all it takes to control him.

I remember my first game, I hadn't even signed up on ASC yet, I was tagging along with katey (her first game too). People were friendly, Trigger and a bunch of others introduced themselves to me and I had a great time.

Um, guys, this thread is meant to be used to make fun of FNG, not me. Didn't you get the memo?

The first game I went to was down in Windsor, I did that on purpose in case I made a giant fool of myself, then I wouldn't have to face them again. The only person there who plays regularly here is Marac, and he's been sworn to secrecy as to my performance(or lack there of) that day, on pain of death, or worse.

You dont have to be a part of any team to play this game. Just contact the organizers, check the requirements (if any), and go.

Now if you are under 16... you have a problem.

I don't think he ment " part of the team " as in he needs to be in a team to play.
I think he ment that everyone where knows themselves and a newcomer could be regarded as "The Newb" or something and then everyone would ignore him and such.

If that is the worry, dont worry. Everyone was the new guy once.
If you go and hide in a corner, people will give you space thinking it's what you want. If you introduce yourself instead and start asking questions, you will get answers and have more fun.

Teams have sort of become a much more frequent occurance over the past years. When I started.. there was S.T.A.T.... and... S.T.A.T...

Everyone was spare change. That still exists. Don't feel intimidated by the groups, and NEVER feel you HAVE to join a team. Period. Everyone is super accomodating as long as you're not an idiot and you get absorbed into whatever groups are playing. Anyone that DOESN'T do so is the exception, and they usually aren't round very long.

Just GO man! You'll see! :)
