Whats your ak47 wood kit?

Just got my AK-47 today, ancorp convinced me with his shit.

It's presently in tacticool mode and I'm looking for a wood kit.

I'd like to know what's the best wood kit for an AK-47 from TM out there..

I've seen alot of wood kits here and there and I'd like one with a nice finish, that is still available; I can't find the Guarder one anywhere.

To sum up:
I'm looking for the nicest AK-47 or AKM wood kit that is not discontinued.

I've seen some on eHobbyAsia, some on UNC, some from some guy that posted on airsoft news, etc.

Where did you get yours?

I have a G&P kit on my AK. Pistol grip was a bitch to fit, and the interior finish on the wood was amaturish at best, but it fit well and matches nicely with my modified real-steel AKM foregrip. I got the one with the metal front sight block, BTW.

I paid $160 shipped to Canada when I bought it (2 yrs ago).

www.ebaybanned.com has a bunch of them and from what i can tell people like there service and they have shipping included into the price.

Inokatsu value kits coming out in 2008 is what I'm waiting for.

Real parts will fit with some modification. Can't get closer to the real thing than that. Note though that a real pistol grip won't fit without way too much work to make it worth it.

I've got the King Arms set. Looks pretty good, I had some fit issues with the lower handguard but from talking to others with the same kit its an isolated issue.

ancorp, I saw that kit as well a little while ago and really liked it but the thing is, I don't feel like waiting till sometimes in 2008 since it's my brand new toy :D

bean, that ebaybanned site looks fucking nice. I never saw it before.

Skru, I'll need to have a deeper look at my AK to see if i need that front set or not. Also, if it was a bitch to install, do you recommend it?

I unpacked the AK at work and had like 10 people crowding my desk so I didn't really get the time to look at it carefully.

Finally, ancorp, do you know when in 2008?

ancorp December 3rd, 2007 15:21

No idea. Hopefully soon.

Unpacked your AK at work eh :P

RS wood is a pain to modify, the stock especially. The pistol grip is a no-go, unless you take two, cut 1/3 off each, and attach them together, as airsoft grips are fatter due to the motor in them.

I think Cushak makes wood kits (custom) on these boards...

Cheers,
Alex

ancorp, I work at EA and we all have airsoft guns here and there. There are cans in a corner of the studio as well.

I don't feel like working too much on fitting it so I'm not going for a RS kit and I wonder how long it would take to build a custom one.. It's wood working after all...

Can a wood kit snap?

Only the pistol grip didn't fit right - I could have made it fit, but I never used it anyways since I had an extra from a Guarder AKSU kit and I like the feel of the Guarder grip better - it was slimmer, and also had texturing; the G&P is fatter and smooth.

The front end was simple to install except for one part - trying to fit the rear sight spring. I couldn't make it fit and ended up using my dremel and a polishing head to gently remove some of the anodizing to make the spring fit. Other than that, it took only about a hour for the whole install, with a simple set of hand tools.

Excellent, thanks mate :P

I looked at it now that I'm home and it appears my front set is plastic so I might need to change it then.

Is there a special way to remove the top cover??

Also, what does the hopup adjustment knob look like?

I have the G&P Kit, I freaking love it. Amazing work.

Did not have any problems fitting it. Even the pistol grip (Marui AK)

Cassius December 3rd, 2007 18:50

Thanks Mud. I'm actually building the same AK as you.

AK-47 with 74 flash hider looks badass.

I'll most likely get that wood kit. :D

Thanks all. :)

I had real AKM wood on 47 and have r/s and custom made stock on RPK now.

Yup! :)

Make them from Oak. The ones I make are slightly bigger than the Tokyo Marui stock, that's done on purpose to accommodate a 9.6v big battery while still being sturdy. Next batch will have a few modifications to the stock (may make it a tad longer) to make it easier to get a large battery in there.

At this moment I don't make pistol grips, however I'm looking at away to do it.
Only problem is it's a small piece to be maneuvering around a high speed router.....

That was on the first attempt.

Cassius December 4th, 2007 11:51

lol how long does it take to make one full set? grip, handguard and stock?

Also, Mud; What brand of 74 flash hider did you choose?? Action makes one that isn't too pricey and KM makes one that is pricey... I wonder what's the difference..
