Kos Mos is a good guy!!
I had a stark arms G18c that had a problem like what you are describing. If I recall correctly, the hammer wasnt cocking down fully which was causing the blowback housing to get stuck and preventing the slide from coming off. I had to basically hold down the hammer with a screw driver while forcing the slide forward.
