Dunno which model you got, but the RDS's that I have are quite functional. Definately not just for looks. I've got a P90 (RDS) and my bro's got 2 aimpoints for his M4 and G36 all of which are tuned well and at around 80 ft or so, if your dot is on your target, you'll have a pretty darn good chance of hitting them.
Just curious, but have you tuned your hopup and everything? Make sure the scope rings are tight. if all fails you can try to slip some paper in the back scope ring under the RDS so it props it up a bit which should push the whole thing pointing more downwards. not sure how well that'll work for an RDS but it works well for scopes.
