If the barrel quality or inside diameter consistancy is not great, you'll have a greater chance of striking the inner walls with a bb on a tighter barrel - hence lower accuracy.
Some germans (of course they would be germans) did some very accurate measurements of inner barrels (ultrasonic?) and found that the barrels they tested were not perfectly round. I can't find their results, but I seem to remember that Prometheus barrels had the best QC of all tested. If the barrel was not perfectly round, you'd produce odd effects on the bb's flight path and consequently bad accuracy. kinda explains, to me anyways, the hit and miss improvement in accuracy from manufacturer to manufacturer and even from barrel to barrel from the same manufacturer.
