I looked at one of these guns today exhibiting this same problem. The nozzle is inconsistant in it's movement, and sort of does it's own thing.
I remember a G&G UMP I looked at about 4 years ago, and the sector gear was shimmed so that it nearly bypassed the tappet. After awhile, it wore a groove in the tappet and totally bypassed it every time.
I would look inside the gearbox. I removed the hop-up from the gun I looked at, and other than the bullshit barrel clip that allowed the inner barrel to freely rotate however the hell it wants, there was no problem with the hop-up. The gun I saw had no spring on the hop-up chamber either.
